Young Seafood Leaders to descend on Grimsby for inaugural meeting

By Grimsby Telegraph | Posted: 30 Jan 2019

The Young Seafood Leaders’ Network will host their first meeting in Grimsby next month.

Seafish, the public body that supports the £10 billion UK seafood industry, is behind the new network aimed at nurturing and developing young talent within the seafood industry.

The concept was launched at the UK Seafood Summit at Forest Pines Hotel in October, attracting 40 young seafood professionals from around the UK, all keen to meet, share knowledge and develop their careers.

Marcus Coleman, chief executive of Seafish said: “I’ve been amazed at the response we had from people to join the network, which goes to show it was much needed.

“We’ll be bringing together that young talent from across the seafood sector and hosting our first meeting at The Future of Foods careers event, which we believe is a great location for our delegates.”

The Young Seafood Leaders’ Network will be a platform for knowledge sharing and identification and appreciation of best practice.

The goals are to:

  • Provide opportunities for the exploration of business ideas
  • Provide networking opportunities
  • Facilitate partnerships and mentoring between young professionals and experienced industry practitioners
  • Develop leadership skills
  • Identify professional development opportunities

The network is open to aspiring seafood leaders between the ages of 25 and 40 years of age who are passionate about their own development and that of the UK seafood industry in general.
