There is a bit of good news though, because the team that run the Butcher Row eatery are promising that a new restaurant will open in the unit.

A spokesperson for the restaurant said: “Today we are sorry to announce that Rebels' Smokehouse will close on January 2, 2018. We will close down to refit the restaurant and will be replaced by something new exciting and shiny - it's a surprise.

Rebels' Smokehouse has been very popular with people in Beverley

“Thank you for all your support over the last four years. Come and celebrate Rebels' between now and January 2.”

Lots of people have shared their shock on Facebook with the restaurant team teasing what the eatery might become next.

The statement continued: “All we can confirm is that we will not be a smokehouse when we reopen.

“It will be something completely new for the area - a brand new concept. All vouchers purchased from Rebels' and Rub Smokehouse can be used in the new venue or any of our other venues.”

The company has venues in Nottingham, Birmingham and Newcastle among other places.

Some of their eating challenges have included a bottomless chicken nugget party and an all-you-can-eat ice cream and cookie dough event.

It is thought the replacement for Rebels will open its doors on January 9. The venue is currently looking to hire more staff for the new venture.
