Roll-on roll-on! Port tour weekend launches in Immingham

EVER wondered what happens behind the gates of the UK’s largest port? 

Operator ABP, wants to show Immingham off to you.

Two exclusive open days are being held on Saturday July 28 and Sunday, July 29, with the free guided coach tours starting at Immingham Civic Centre. 

From there it will take in the facilities that allow it to contribute to 10 per cent of the UK’s electricity generation, with one in 10 lights turned on by energy cargoes which have passed through the port. 

The tour includes the £130 million investment in the world’s largest biomass handling facility, which has the capacity to handle six million tonnes of wood pellet.

More than 25 per cent of the country’s oil-refining capacity also comes through pipelines into Immingham, with the vital infrastructure which services the impressive vessels also in display.

Simon Bird, regional director for ABP Humber said: “We are really looking forward to being able to open the port gates and allow public access for this special weekend. We’re keen to show off our world-class facilities and also inform the general public about exactly how many jobs we have on offer, right here in Immingham.”
