New store is a perfect fit for Grimsby shoe seller

A GRIMSBY business owner has put her walking shoes on and relocated her children's shoe store from Osborne Street to Abbeygate.

Kim Dennison, owner of My New Shoes for the last 21 years, felt the time was right to make the move.

At an intimate gathering with close friends, supporters and staff last week, to celebrate the move, she recalled how she first started in Cleethorpes with a close friend and then moved into Grimsby after a short while.

"I have wanted to be part of Abbeygate for a while, so I was waiting for the right opportunity," she said.

"It's all individual, independent stores and it's nice to be part of that community feel. It's a nice opportunity, I'm quite excited at the prospect of a change of location.

"I've got a very loyal group of customers, so they will all know where we are.

"Everybody has been very positive about it and have been putting messages on my business Facebook page.

"Hundreds have sent me messages of support too."

WIDE RANGE: My New Shoes stocks children's shoes - and even has a children's toy area to keep the little ones entertained.

She added: "People that came in as small children are now coming back with their children!"

The store remains largely unchanged, stocking children's shoes – some of them are designer, along with a selection of girls and boys clothing.

Kim favours branded shoes to give children the best start.

"I stock Start-rite because I believe children's feet need to be measured," she said.

"Looking after your feet is very important. I have a wide customer base from Mablethorpe, to Scunthorpe and Doncaster, they like the personal service. Customers like our experience and knowledge and being independent, I can choose brands I want.

"My staff are very friendly and we try to make sure we are as welcoming as possible.

"I have a very fantastic, loyal group of staff, you can't do anything without good staff. We also have a children's toy area.

"At the moment I'm consolidating brands that I've got and looking ahead to the new season. I'm looking forward to continuing for many years in Abbeygate."
