New Grimsby restaurant to serve up most unique sharing boards we've ever seen

It's all about sharing at a new restaurant, which is set to open doors later this month.

The Social Kitchen at the Swallow, on Caistor Road, aims to enhance visitors' dining experience with their sharing platters and locally brewed craft beers.

Located at The Swallow Inn's former site, Grimsby's newest restaurant is to serve up some unique dishes such as English breakfast pizza, American high tea sharing boards, and chocolate fondue with churros, honeycomb, fruit, marshmallows and popcorn.

As well as pizzas and sharing boards, the restaurant serves pasta and salads, burgers, and sharing steaks including a 20oz flat-iron and 24oz tomahawk steak.

Restaurant managers Jack Chalk and Jamie Loring, former assistant operations manager and restaurant manager at Healing Manor respectively, teamed up to open The Social Kitchen at the Swallow as a new venture.

Mr Chalk said: "It's all about social eating, with a focus on sharing boards.

"It's our idea tables of four or six can sit down with a few boards in the middle of them to share, with this then creating a more social dining experience.

"I believe we are at risk of losing our social ability these days as we become more detached and restaurants try to be over sophisticated."

The Social Kitchen at the Swallow was set to open on Friday, March 8, but its launch has been pushed back due to "circumstances out of their control."

On their Facebook page, a spokesman said: "We have decided to postpone the opening of The Social Kitchen for the following reasons:

"An integral part of the renovation, which is to be a focal point at the Social Kitchen, had been delivered, however it was not at all as expected.

"The attention to detail that we have paid throughout the complete renovation is to a very high standard and we felt that we couldn’t open without everything being right.

"We’re aware that the former Swallow Inn has had, unfortunately, a rather up and down past but my commitment to this totally new venture is 100 per cent, as you’ll know from our sister venue, The Blacksmith’s Arms in Rothwell.

"This is a totally new concept for this area and I feel that it has to be to the highest of standards, so that at your first visit you understand the whole concept of what the Social Kitchen is all about.

"For anyone who has booked a table for the opening evening, you will be contacted personally on the contact details at the time of booking."
