Nationwide timber and builders’ merchant Howarth Timber & Building Supplies has strengthened its regional management structure with the addition of a new area manager.
Jack Taylor has been appointed to the role and is responsible for engaging with the Scunthorpe, Grimsby, Barnsley, Doncaster, Thorne, York, Malton, Mansfield and Derby branches on group-wide initiatives and improvements.
The company has a major footprint in North Lincolnshire, a 70-acre manufacturing base at new Holland, where a 5,000 sq m extension to bolster window and doors production recently completed.
Together with three other area managers, Jack will also be responsible for setting a forward-thinking merchanting strategy across the company’s full branch network.
Jack began his career within the builder’s merchant industry at the age of just 16, working his way up from a customer-facing role to being the assistant manager at M&K Builders. After enjoying ten years with the family-run business, Jack began his career with Travis Perkins, where he held the position of regional director for six years before joining Howarth Timber.
The area manager roles were created to allow Howarth Timber to sustain and oversee the growth of the business’s merchant branch network.
The four area managers are part of the newly formed senior leadership team. From that team the area managers will convey the company’s vision for the future to the branches. They will provide a professional support structure in keeping with the ethos of the family owned business.
Jack said: “I have only worked with three companies during my career and I felt it was time for a new challenge. I am very pleased to be returning to my roots and working for a business with a real family ethos.
“I can see the potential growth for Howarth Timber and the great future it has in the merchant industry. I am looking forward to implementing a more consistent approach within my region and the group and developing the business further.”
Commenting on Jack’s appointment, Howarth Timber & Building Supplies’ managing director, Nick Howarth said: “As someone who has spent his career within the industry, Jack brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience, as well as new thinking and ideas.
“The creation of the new management division provides a vital point of contact between the branches and the senior leadership team, and will help us to lay the platform for Howarth Timber’s sustained growth and consolidate its position as the UK’s leading builders’ merchant.”
