A local network is being established to promote and increase apprenticeships within key sectors across North East Lincolnshire experiencing current or future skills gaps.
The North East Lincolnshire Apprenticeship Ambassador Network (NEL AAN) is a sub-regional group of the Yorkshire & Humber AAN (part of the National AAN).
The Network is made up of a group of employers, whose main aim is to champion apprenticeships within sectors such as engineering and manufacturing, energy, construction, chemicals, food, ports and logistics, health, social care and visitor economy.
The Network aims to raise awareness and increase employer commitment to meet the skills needs of the local workforce, communities, and individuals across North East Lincolnshire.
Sharon Stead, pictured left, Care Plus Group employability manager, Yorkshire and Humber apprenticeship ambassador and chairman of the North East Lincolnshire AAN said: “I am really pleased to be leading the work establishing this Network aiming to increase apprenticeship opportunities for local people whilst supporting local businesses to build a workforce for the future.
“National Apprenticeship Week is a prime opportunity to launch the Network and reach out to local employers who are interested in becoming an Apprenticeship Ambassador.
"The Network is also a great opportunity to showcase local apprenticeship talent at a national level by feeding into regional networks.”
“Ambassadors are chosen to join the AAN because they demonstrate a high commitment to apprenticeships and/or traineeships in their own workforce and influence a wide range of key stakeholders to engage in apprenticeship delivery; including schools, colleges, local enterprise partnerships, employers and their supply chains.”
Bryndis Halldorsson – Pathway to Success

Bryn’s career pathway within Care Plus Group is an inspiration to anybody who would like a career within Health and Social Care.
When Bryndis started a voluntary Employability placement back in June 2013 at the Curzon Centre as a Trainee Support Worker, never in her wildest dreams did she realise where this would lead.
In September 2013 she was successful in gaining an apprentice health care assistant position with the 360 Care Community Nursing Team, and it was from here that her career journey really took off.
After completing her apprenticeship in March 2015, Bryn was successful in gaining a substantive health care assistant role.
Beginning to realise what she was capable of, Bryn applied for and was successful in gaining the role of Associate Practitioner. Not only did she have to get to grips with a new role – it also meant that Bryn would have to attend University, as gaining a Health & Social Care Foundation Degree was a requirement of the role.
Bryn has now been given the news that she has been successful in attaining her Level 5 Foundation Degree – a proud moment not only for Bryn and her family, but also the Employability Team, who have followed her career closely.
Amanda Thomas, apprenticeship development officer who supported Bryndis throughout her earlier apprenticeship commented: “I am so proud of Bryn – she has come so far and worked so hard – she really deserves her success.”
Charlotte Firth - Manufacturing Graduate Morrisons PLC
Charlotte, pictured left, knew that she wanted to do an apprenticeship over other training and education as she explains: "The opportunity to learn a role, whilst being able to do the role – there is no better way to progress yourself and your career.
"It also opens you up to be recognised as a face of the future, which enhances your progression rate within the business.
"It was the perfect way to get hands on experience in an environment that I’d previously never entered into.
"I also recognised that it was an opportunity to progress in an exciting environment, with lots of exposure to different job roles and areas of the business."
Charlotte described her experience so far as "Exciting, rewarding, and varied" adding: "There are so many opportunities to get involved in different projects, development training, business improvement and varied job roles.
"I also think it’s fantastic to have exposure to the senior team, and be respected for the ideas I put forward."
Following the apprenticeship route has also enabled Charlotte to progress and develop her career even further.
"I have been able to gain contacts throughout different areas and levels of the business, lead and drive projects, work hands on in various roles, and manage teams," she continued.
"The experience is invaluable, and not only has it given me the knowledge on how to progress, it has allowed me the opportunity to do so.
"I hope to finish my scheme onto a managerial position in September."
Nicholas Fisher, people advisor at Morrison’s and NEL Apprenticeship Ambassador said: “I chose to become an Apprenticeship Ambassador as apprentices have a large impact on the success of a business.
"Morrison's apprenticeships offer local people a chance to earn while they learn and study towards a recognised qualification.
"Apprenticeships help to develop the skills needed to create a successful career within the food and manufacturing industry and in my role as an Ambassador not only do I get the thrill of supporting those who have never thought about the manufacturing sector before but I also to get to work with and support other businesses to create more opportunities in my local area.”
