Mystery over future of Lincoln Imp as Scunthorpe pub and gig venue put up for lease and manager leaves

Mystery surrounds the future of a popular Scunthorpe pub and live music venue which has been advertised for lease after its managers left.

The Lincoln Imp has been rated in the top three small music venues in the country and has hosted a number of high-profile shows in recent years.

Manager Lorraine Briggs said her last shift at the Gloucester Avenue pub was at the weekend and she did not know what was going to happen next.

A sign has now been put up outside the premises by operator Star Pubs & Bars which says the property is for lease and gives details for interested parties to find out more about taking over.

Recently, the likes of Wheatus, Gareth Gates and McFly star Dougie Poynter, who joined rock band A, have performed at the Scunthorpe venue.

The former manager, Lorraine Briggs said she was not sure what was going to happen next.

A statement on the venue's Facebook page over the weekend said: "Tonight is our last shift at the Imp.  Thank you to all our customers, musicans and artists that have passed through our doors in the last five years.

"Thank you to our music team Kev, Charlie and Will.  Together we have taken the Imp to be the third best small music venue in the UK and first in Lincolnshire. I'm so proud of what we have achieved!

"Wishing who ever takes over all the luck in the world, I for one have enjoyed every minute here! Keep on rocking guys! Will miss you all!

"From Lorraine, and not forgetting my Paul who without his funding it would not be where it is today.

"Keep Music Live!"

The Lincoln Imp was recognised in a 2017 poll by online concert promoters Gigmit about small venues in the UK, where it was beaten to the top spot only by Liverpool's Cavern Club and Leicester's The Shed.

Scunthorpe Live has approached Star Pubs and Bars for a comment.
