Meet Hull and Humber's brightest stars as top 30 under 30 is announced for 2019

The very best of young business talent across Hull & East Yorkshire has been revealed in the 2019 Top 30 Under 30 list.
This year’s cohort includes employees working across all sectors, from technology and manufacturing to emergency services and offshore wind.
It is the second year the Top 30 Under 30 has celebrated the region’s top young employees, and comes ahead of a night of celebration at the KCOM Stadium in April.
Simon Jones, founder of the awards, said: “I am absolutely delighted with the 2019 list.
“After last year, there were a few industries which I said it would be great to see represented in the new list. They included the public sector and construction, and we have got both of those included this time.

“We had a lot more entries this year than in 2018, and the standard was extremely high.”
Businesses represented on the 2019 list include KCOM, Ideal Boilers, law firm Rollits, Willerby and Siemens Gamesa.
The new list also includes a communications manager at Humberside Police, and a student engagement officer at the University of Hull.
The construction sector is also represented by Harry Fawcett, a trainee quantity surveyor at Beal Homes.
Speaking earlier this year, Mr Jones said he was looking for inspirational young people who had made “a significant impact” on the business they work at.

Rich McAlpin - Product & Propositions Lead - KCOM
Rich McAlpin, product & propositions lead at KCOM (Top 30)
Rich joined KCOM in 2017 as proposition lead, before being promoted in 2018 to product and propositions lead.
Rich is the commercial lead for KCOM’s involvement in the Government’s Gigabit Voucher Scheme.
He now leads KCOM's Hull and East Yorkshire business product team. The increased scope of his new role is already enabling him to make an even bigger impact on the business.
Rich’s success is down to his commercial acumen and his ability to develop strategic solutions to business challenges.
Michael Bulmer - Customer Service Rep - Ideal Boilers
Michael joined Ideal Boilers in 2015 initially as a temp.
He takes an average of 221 calls per day from both engineers and customers, always with a polite manner and a high-degree of professionalism.
Mike has also gone an extra mile for the business by assisting with charity events. He recently coordinated the business' efforts for Children in Need in the call centre, where the team helped Pudsey by baking cakes, dressing in onesies, taking part in a quiz plus a variety of food-based challenges.
His efforts helped Ideal raise well over £1,700 for Children in Need.
Danielle Thomas - Learning & Development Manager - Wescot Credit Services
Danielle joined as a temp, initially for three months, in 2010 as a customer services agent.
During this period, Danielle has been promoted into three different roles - team coach leader, L&D officer and currently learning & development manager for England.
Danielle has a "genuine and passionate desire to support others."
She has been described as "tenacious in her quest to improve her own capability and strives to achieve the best results possible, even when the environment and resource risks presented make it difficult to deliver good outcomes."
Petya Todorova - Marketing Leader Europe – Krehalon
Petya joined Krehalon as a marketing assistant straight from university in 2014.
She was solely responsible in the website development for the European group, and brought in the existing dated websites into one consistent brand format and messages across many countries and languages.
All this work culminated in the launch of the new brand identity at a large industry exhibition in May 2016.
She has been a key member that has generated the sales momentum that brought record sales to the European group.
Lindsay Cooke - HR Officer - Intergreen
Lindsay Cooke, HR officer at Intergreen (Top 30)
Starting out as a line operative in 2011, Lindsay worked to a line leader.
However, in 2013 an exciting opportunity arose to change her career path.
Lindsay’s understanding of the industry - coupled with previous experience of day-to-day operational challenges - proved to be invaluable for the securement of the HR assistant role, and later, promotion to HR officer.
Lindsay is a true advocate for inclusivity in the workplace, helping to break down stereotypes, raise awareness of mental health, and through working with a multicultural workforce, has transcended in uniting and supporting individuals.
Gareth Orriss - Senior Solicitor - Rollits

A former student at Hull Grammar School, Gareth graduated from the University of Hull in 2012 with a First-Class Honours Degree in Law.
He joined Rollits at the beginning of 2016 as a solicitor in the property team, dealing with all aspects of commercial property work including secured lending, acquisitions and disposals.
He is an extremely capable individual who has grown and developed in his work and is a real role model for other graduates looking to pursue a career at the firm.
Gareth was promoted to the status of senior solicitor in recognition of his attitude, commitment, and enthusiasm
Lydia English - HR Assistant - MKM
Lydia English, HR assistant at MKM (Top 30)
Lydia joined the team as a temporary administrator and has become a key backbone of the HR team.
Able to interact with people at all levels, Lydia has been described as "a pleasure to have as part of the team" at MKM.
She is quietly determined, and most will not know that she spends her weekends and evenings completing her master’s degree work as she bounds into the office each morning.
Kimberley Urry - Payroll Manager - AAK
Kimberley Urry, payroll manager at AAK (Russ Kemp)
Kimberley joined AAK May 2018 and immediately hit the ground running and took full responsibility for a monthly payroll.
Kimberley has project managed two large and significant payroll related initiatives in 2018.
She has been described as "calm, collective, makes rational decisions, and communicates and collaborates to a level beyond her years."
If that was not enough Kimberley is also studying part-time towards a degree in Payroll Management through the CIPP.
Chelsea Myers – General Manager - Language is Everything
Chelsea started her career as an apprentice with another organisation.
As part of the leadership team at Language is Everything, she has a wide range of responsibilities managing the 24/7 interpretation and translation operation, including the day-to-day management and recruitment of the team.
As the business has grown and evolved, Chelsea has also continued to grow.
Natalie Downie - Account Director - Forward & Thinking
Natalie Downie, account director at Forward & Thinking (Top 30)
Natalie joined Forward and Thinking in 2014 on a two-week work experience placement.
She showed so much potential that she was immediately offered a full-time role as an account executive.
Within two years, she was promoted to account director and started mentoring other team members while still keeping her key accounts happy and growing.
She carries herself so confidently and professionally, which is so rarely seen from people her age.
Will Kebbell - Chief Technical Officer - Connexin
While studying for his A-levels at Hull Collegiate, William approached co-founders Furqan Alamgir and Alex Yeung for work experience during the summer break after a talk the pair gave at his school about entrepreneurship.
William more than proved his technical skills, ability and know-how. In fact, so much so, that he was offered the chance to work part-time at Connexin while he studied for his A-levels.
William was offered full-time employment at Connexin in the “Special Ops” team. He continued to rise through the ranks, as head of networks, security & software services, and then, as technical & networks director.
Currently, William leads a dynamic team of people at Connexin as chief technical officer, driving the company’s national technology strategy and smart cities vision.
Mike Hogan – General Manager - Medi-Clear
Mike is general manager for a family business that has gone from strength to strength.
He takes on a wide range of responsibilities within the business and is a hands-on leader. He is prepared to get involved with the day to day operation, as well as leading strategy.
Mike has been balancing the role alongside completing his MBA, which he graduated from in January.
He has worked tirelessly to balance both his working commitments and his degree, fulfilling both to a high level.

Emily Gallagher - Sales Manager - Bio D
Since Emily joined Bio-D two years ago, she has improved customer service levels.
She now manages its field sales team of 10, and has implemented goals and targets for the team with a process that facilitates the achieving of the targets with regular reviews.
Emily has been responsible for delivering some huge new customers to the business, and has managed all aspects of bringing those accounts to fruition.
Chris Jolliffe - Head of Sales - Tevalis
Chris started with Tevalis four years ago as a raw recruit in sales & marketing with determination, desire and absolute confidence that he was going to make a difference.
Chris took this challenge on with relish and started on a seven-day week to chase every lead and every opportunity, with results coming very quickly from his unique selling technique.
Many testimonials were received praising his ability and genuine interest in fulfilling clients demands.
Inevitably his talent was recognised and rewarded with a swift move up the sales-force ladder.

Harry Fawcett - Trainee Quantity Surveyor - Beal Homes

Harry’s first taste of life at Beal Homes was as a 15-year old on a work placement in its technical team.
He enjoyed the experience so much he asked to return the following summer on a voluntary basis.
Such was his talent, when Harry left school, Beal Homes created a trainee quantity surveyor position so he could join full-time.
Since Harry joined Beal Homes, the company has witnessed a rapid increase in the number of new homes it has built.
This has meant an ever-increasing workload which would have challenged the most experienced of quantity surveyors.
Nathaniel Read - Senior IoT Engineer - Ideal Boilers
Nat joined the company as an apprentice in September 2010. He joined Ideal's controls team within R&D and quickly demonstrated a continuously positive attitude related to learning and achieving targets.
Described as a "great asset to the newly formed IoT team," his wealth of knowledge on boilers is invaluable.
This has most recently involved working with the voice interaction systems of Alexa and Siri.
Shardee Manzouri - Customer Acquisition Manager - MKM
Shardee is a graduate who has grown and developed through her career and now has a senior marketing role within MKM.
She is responsible for the proactive marketing campaigns for key customer groups, involved with events and helps promote existing and new stores.
She consistently delivers, and works well both within the team and with wider stakeholders.
She also isn’t afraid to get stuck into anything to get the job done.
Jack Laws - Senior Design Engineer - Willerby Holiday Homes
Jack joined the business in 2013 as a junior draughtsman and has since gone on to achieve a BSc Hons Degree in Management while working full-time.
Just 12 months after starting as a junior draughtsman, Jack was promoted to a design engineer role due to his commitment within the team, his ability to develop and his quick understanding.
After two years in this position, Jack established himself as an integral team member within the new product development department and at just 24 years old, he was promoted to a senior design engineer.
Jack has also helped with both the employment and development of trainees and other staff members bringing them in and developing them into key members of the business.
Rebekah Daddy - Customer Relations Manager - Willerby Holiday Homes

Rebekah joined Willerby straight from college in 2011 as a customer service coordinator.
Following a promotion to office manager, Rebekah set about restructuring the customer service team.
With customer focus at the forefront of this change, work included designing and embedding a new organisational structure. The success of this work is evidenced by Willerby being recognised by one of its biggest customers as its number one holiday home supplier.
Rebekah’s current role encompasses the leadership and management of 49 individuals across four diverse teams.
Billie McLoughlin - BD & Accountant - Harris, Lacey & Swain
Billie is a three-year post-qualified accountant who has, over the last 18 months, taken on many new responsibilities.
She has been the driving force behind the modernisation of the firm, and is now a key member of the management team when deciding on business strategy.
Billie’s role now encompasses business development, and she has set about building the resources and infrastructure to make the business not just up to date but at the forefront of the profession.
Alexina Russell-Lewis - Global Digital Marketing & Comms - Sonoco Trident
Sonoco Trident is based in Kingswood, with offices around the world (Sonoco Trident)
Alexina joined Trident straight from University at 24 in December 2017 on a six-month internship in digital marketing.
In that short internship, she made herself an indispensable part of our team and developed a digital strategy for which she is now leading the delivery in her permanent role.
She developed and now leads a global team of social media and digital content owners across 12 offices worldwide, dealing with the complexities of multiple timezones, cultures, regulations and platforms.
Alexina next turned her attention to Trident's website. In four months, she designed, developed and implemented a completely new site which was launched in late-2018.
Jack Howdle - Pre and Post Development Engineer - Ideal Standard
Jack joined the Ideal Standard in October 2017, quickly became a valuable member of the pre and post-development team.
Jack was assigned as lead engineer to a very complex and high-profile NPD project, which involved not only a huge amount of technical input and knowledge, but also a significant amount of practical work.
Jack remains an integral part of Ideal's team in Hull, and has now taken on additional projects of similar complexities, in which he is delivering work of the highest level.
Daniel Kirby - Quantity Surveyor - Kitchen Civils
Daniel joined Kitchen Civils in 2016 having decided that doing his masters in quantity surveying was not enough to keep him busy, and sought a position that would apply the new skills he would learn.
It has been a whirlwind since Daniel joined Kitchen Civils, with him committing to continuously improving himself, learning every day and engaging in all areas of the business.
He is a character in the office, and someone who has real enthusiasm for his work.
Chloe Horton - Production Data System Lead - Siemens Gamesa

Chloe joined the blade factory in Hull when the site was still in the project phase as an apprentice engineer, and proved to be instrumental during the ramp-up of its operations.
Her talents were soon recognised, and within a short period of time she was put in charge of ensuring the company's new in-house system was being used correctly and the quality of the data was value add.
It has been a mammoth task to get nearly 800 people to enter correctly in a system while ensuring the quality of the data is high.
Chloe has further developed in recent months and become a leader in the business, managing a diverse team.
Josh Richardson - Chartered Financial Planner - Informed Financial Planning

Since joining Informed Financial Planning in 2015, Josh has worked his way up through its graduate trainee programme; starting as a paraplanner and now a fully qualified chartered financial planner.
Josh has established many relationships with professionals, such as accountants and solicitors, in Yorkshire.
While the long-term objective is to assist their clients with financial matters; his focus has initially been on providing presentations to companies on areas of financial planning.
Josh has made extensive progress in light of his short spell in the role, and is on course to be a leading financial planner for the region.
Neil Russell - Lead Process Technician - Bericap
Neil joined Bericap just over six years ago as a junior lab technician.
However, Neil quickly realised that his passion laid elsewhere, and he wanted to progress with a career in Bericap's process department.
Since joining the process department, he has gone from strength to strength and has been instrumental in some key projects and developments within the company.
Neil's work ethic is second to none. This is reflected in his can-do attitude and willingness to stay late or come in early to see a job through.
Emma Palmer - Student Engagement Officer - Hull University
Emma is a leading figure in the welfare of students at Hull University, taking a passion for the student experience and flourishing in the roles she has undertaken.
Valuing the student voice and the input that students can have into shaping their education, she also went back to Hull College - where she was previously a student - as a governor of its board and now successfully flies the flag for students and the student voice.
Emma is really valued by both Hull University & Hull College in the roles she undertakes, demonstrating an enthusiasm, work ethic and responsibility rarely seen from someone.
Lisa Mayes - Marketing & Internal Comms Manager - Humberside Police
Lisa Mayes joined Humberside Police in April 2017 and has already made a huge impact upon the department and the wider force in her first 10 months.
Lisa's role as internal communications manager is crucial in ensuring that the force's police officers and staff have the information they need to do their jobs.
She leads from the front and does not compromise on quality. She challenges her colleagues appropriately, persuaded, supported and helped everyone who needed it.
Louise Blyth - IT Supervisor - Ultimate Packaging
Louise started at Ultimate Packaging as an IT support administrator in 2014 and has continued to progress and grow.
She is tenacious, works well under pressure, can multi-task and is willing to learn.
She has taken more responsibility over key projects including creating physical infrastructure improvements, help with implementing a new firewall and has been responsible for the company-wide upgrade of Windows.
Louise now mentors and manages a member of first line of support and being a rare female IT engineer in a male dominated world.
