Hull company Kingstown Furniture secures contract to sell products in Ireland

A furniture company which has its roots firmly planted in Hull has secured a prestigious deal which will see its collection go on sale in Ireland.

Kingstown Furniture, based on Leads Road in Hull, will have a selection of its best-selling ranges in almost a dozen Harvey Norman stores in the Republic of Ireland, and two in Northern Ireland.

The company started out life in a garage in Hull, and is now the UK’s leading manufacturer of ready-assembled furniture.

Richard Sharp, managing director of Kingstown Furniture, said: “It’s been an exciting year for Kingstown Furniture with the release of brand new collections, and also the expansion of our best-selling ranges supporting our commitment to providing flexible and fashionable furniture solutions to new areas of the home.

“We’re delighted that Harvey Norman customers in Ireland will now be able to browse our furniture in-person and experience first-hand the practical benefits of our ready-assembled furniture; a result of being able to customise bespoke pieces to best suit their needs.”

All of the furniture will be available to purchase in-store and online, and can be delivered to the home within four to six weeks.

Harvey Norman is an Australian-based retailer of furniture, bedding, computers and other electrical products. The company said Kingstown Furniture’s range was “a perfect addition” to Harvey Norman’s portfolio.

Myles Campion, of Harvey Norman, said: “Kingstown Furniture are the perfection addition to our furniture portfolio thanks to their cleverly designed and characteristic furniture pieces.

"We pride ourselves on stocking a variety of high-quality, contemporary furniture, and we’re confident that the Kingstown Furniture ranges will be a hit with Harvey Norman customers.”

Harvey Norman are currently Ireland’s largest retailer of furniture and bedding, and the deal is a coup for the Hull company.

The news comes just days after Kingstown Furniture celebrated being awarded with the Associated Independent Stores Gold Standard Award for quality and service.

The award is recognition of the phenomenal work done by the company and its staff over the last year. Kingstown has come a long way since it was first established in 1976, in the Hull-born founder’s garage.

The business has positively demonstrated how Hull is becoming a prominent contender in various business sectors, through the commercial growth and success of local independent businesses.
