Hugely popular restaurant The Greek is opening a second outlet with late-night bar

One of Princes Avenue’s most popular restaurants is expanding into East Yorkshire.

The Greek opened in the popular Princes Avenue area earlier this year, and has won rave reviews from customers with its authentic Greek food and atmosphere.

Now, owner John Alexakis has revealed a second Greek restaurant will be opening in Hessle next month.

He said: “We thought it was the right time to branch out into other areas of Hull, and we’re just putting together finishing touches of the new restaurant.

“We have had a great response to our Princes Avenue restaurant and I think that’s down to our great, home-cooked Greek food using my mother’s recipes.”

The Greek Hessle will be opening in the former Kingston House in The Weir, with bookings already being taken for Christmas.

The Weir has seen a resurgence in new venues, with Cucina 1884 recently opening its doors and the No 3 Gin Bar & Kitchen also proving a hit with customers.

The menu at the current restaurant in the Avenues consists of traditional Greek food including gyros, souvlaki, feta dishes, houmous, tzatziki, dolmades, meatballs and more.

“We are going to be recreating the exact same menu and feel as our Princes Avenue restaurant, but we will have two floors,” said Mr Alexakis, who also owns Craft & Dough in Newland Avenue.

The Greek's 'Veggie Heaven'

“We won’t be opening the upstairs until after Christmas, but our downstairs area will be open in the next couple of weeks.”

The restaurant will also become a bar in the evening for customers who want to drink rather than eat, with plans to serve Greek cocktails and an extensive wine list.

“We have been busy decorating the restaurant to give it the bright feel we want,” said Mr Alexakis.

“The walls have been painted white and we have a mural of the Acropolis.

“There is also a bar area so we thought, why not use it for customers late on an evening?

The Greek Salad at The Greek in Princes Avenue

“I get lots of customers in Princes Avenue asking me if I can serve them certain wines and drinks that we don’t already stock, so this late-night bar will be for them.”

Customers can request a booking at the Hessle restaurant for after December 15, via The Greek in Princes Avenue.
