GRIMSBY-based infant swimwear specialist Splash About has won gold for a second consecutive year at the 2019 Mother & Baby Awards.
It comes just weeks after securing listings in 300 Sainsbury’s stores, as plans for further expansion are worked up for the new year.

In the 25th year of the highly regarded awards, Splash About’s flagship swim-school approved Happy Nappy swim nappy was judged to be Best Swimming Product once again, underlining the value given to product evolution.
The company brought a silver and bronze home from London for two further products – the UV FloatSuit secured silver in the Best Safety Product category and the innovative Go Splash Swim Vest (pictured right) designed to pack flat in a suitcase, received bronze for Best Travel Product Under £25.
“We couldn’t be prouder that our leak-proof new Happy Nappy swim nappy won Best Swimming Product for the second year in a row at the Mother & Baby Awards, and for our learn-to-swim floatsuit and swim vest to be recognised in such broad categories is the icing on the cake,” said Bernadette Spofforth, managing director of Splash About.
The Happy Nappy was improved early last year, to move with the infant, avoiding any faecal leakage. The unique ergonomic shape, flexible but fitted gusset and specialist pressure fabric ribbing at the waist and legs, allow it to offer the best protection on the market, according to the team.
“The Mother & Baby awards are a mark of trust and a great benchmark for us, because our products are thoroughly tested by a panel of mums and their babies,” finance and operations director Lesley Beach added. “To impress them and receive their seal of approval is a real testament to our brand.”

More than 150,000 UK babies swim each week in a Happy Nappy, with it now a brand insisted upon by more than 90 per cent of UK swim schools and considered best practice by British Standards (BSi) guidelines for baby swimming.
The floatsuit had been up against prams and car seats when it came to safety innovation, with the high level of sun protection and complete coverage praised.

Boots and JoJo Maman Bébé also stock the products, overseen by a team of ten employed in Grimsby, with a further five in Chester. “We will be expanding further in the new year,” Mrs Beach said, adding that new ranges are also planned for the multi-million pound turnover company.
“We are seeing really good growth, particularly outside the UK, we export to the US, Asia and Europe,” she said. “Awards really help, it is a competitive industry and awards like this are a huge achievement.”
With a warehouse in the UK and the US, a third may be added in Holland, depending on Brexit’s outcome, with the company having the garments and aids manufactured in China and Taiwan, then distributed from the strategic locations, operated by third parties.
