A major car retailer with a Volkswagen dealership in Hessle has reported a record year despite tough market conditions.
JCT600 recorded revenues of £1.25bn during the 2017/18 financial year – up two per cent on the previous year.
The car retailer has a branch on Saxon Way in Hessle; one of 50 dealerships across Yorkshire and north-east England.
John Tordoff, chief executive of JCT600, said: "Whilst there was definitely a degree of uncertainty in the UK economy last year which made trading conditions a challenge, the confidence of our customers appears to be resilient.
"Given the strength and longevity of the JCT600 name, the company is continuing to outperform the market as we stick to our core value of being a 'Trusted' partner for our colleagues, customers and our brand partners.”
The company said it had enjoyed a successful year in 2017/18, despite tough market conditions and ever-growing competition from rivals.
JCT 600 saw new vehicle sales decline – in line with the overall market – and saw sales of used vehicles rise.
The group’s increase in gross profits, combined with a reduction in expenses, saw JCT600 record a profit of £19.1m.
JCT600 has invested heavily in recent years, including putting in a further £7m in its ongoing expansion of new premises and redevelopments.
The company’s new Porsche Centre in Teeside is a recent addition to its portfolio, along with a make-over of its Mercedes-Benz Sheffield and Peugeot Bradford branches.
Nigel Shaw, group finance director at JCT600, added: "Despite strong competition both from other physical retailers and from the internet-based dealers, our ongoing investment in people, dealerships and systems is enabling us to retain our competitive advantage."
JCT600 was founded in 1946 as Brooklands Garage on Sticker Lane, Bradford, by current chairman Jack Tordoff, and has grown from a single dealership into the largest privately-owned business in Yorkshire.
The company’s Volkswagen Van Centre in Hull has also enjoyed awards success in 2018.
The centre won two awards at the Volkswagen commercial vehicles awards, held in Manchester.
