Boots is expected to open its new flagship store in St Stephen’s Shopping Centre in Mid-May.

The health and beauty giant last year announced it was relocating from its current home in Prospect Centre to St Stephen’s.

Now, the centre manager at St Stephen’s, Jim Harris, has revealed Boots is set to open in the middle of May, and said May 15 was his best estimate of when shoppers could see the new store.

Mr Harris said: “We are obviously very excited for Boots coming. The new unit is 30,000sq.ft. We have handed it over to Boots now and they are beavering away getting everything finished.

“There is lots of work going on at the moment with the store, but it is all looking very positive.”

The new store will take over the former locations of Peacocks, Sports Direct and Clinton’s.

It will provide customers with a wide range of pharmacy services, and introducing new premium beauty brands and health and beauty products.

Boots previously confirmed all of its current Prospect Centre staff will be relocated to St Stephen’s.  Charlotte Atkin, store manager at Boots, Prospect Centre, said: "With a gorgeous new beauty hall with plenty of new exciting brands alongside an integrated healthcare area, we know that our customers will be very excited to see what we have in store for them.”

The store will offer confidential consultation rooms where patients can access a range of pharmacy services, including flu and travel vaccinations, alongside a complete range of healthcare products, and the exclusive Boots Pharmaceutical range.

Mr Harris said Boots’ commitment to the new store was “a huge vote of confidence” for Hull.  He said: Boots are a great family business. They were looking for a particular type of space in a particular kind of area, and luckily we were able to offer what they wanted.

“They see Hull as a very good market for them, and were looking for a brand new site and this is what came out of it.

“There has been a lot of talk recently about difficult times on the high street, but there is always scope for good retailers who do things well.

“People love to come and shop, it is about making sure we can maximise the opportunities.”

Customers will also be able to find in the new store all of their favourite self-selection beauty brands, including No7 and CYO alongside Soap and Glory and luxury bathing from Champneys.
