Bedding into the local community

Hull based Serviced Apartments provider HSA Hull has begun a programme of refurbishment and expansion, and in the process offered a helping hand to an important local charity.

HSA own and run several buildings of serviced apartments in various locations across the city, including Pearson Park, the old Charterhouse School and the old James Reckitt Library. As part of one recent upgrade, they updated the bedding and linen for all of their apartments. As a result, they have just donated in excess of 100 sets of bedding and linen to Preston Road Women's Centre. The Charity, based on Preston Road, located in a building known to many as the Purple House, provides a range of specialist services, support and advice to women all over Hull

Layla Jopp, Property Manager at HSA, which is also the company behind the current regeneration of The Endsleigh Centre and former Convent on Beverley High Road, and The Winding House on Victoria Dock, explained: "HSA primarily provides a service to people visiting, working and even temporarily living in Hull, and part of our ethos is offering them a 'home away from home' whilst they're here. This involves ensuring all our fixtures, fittings and facilities are of a consistently high standard. But that's not to say that much of what we regularly replace isn't still in great condition. So when we read about Preston Road Women's Centre, and particularly their housing programme, we realised we may well be in a position to do them a bit of a favour."

With regards to the future, Layla continued: "This is an ongoing process, and by the end of the summer our two new developments will also be ready, meaning we'll have another 100 or so apartments, so this may well be the start of a beneficial ongoing relationship".

Of the gesture, Alison Ashton of Preston Road Women's Centre said: "In a difficult financial climate, our services are facing growing demand, yet with no additional funding available, we are increasingly reliant on donations and the co-operation and generosity of the local community, so relationships and contributions such as this are invaluable, to enable us to carry on our vital work."
