Beacon training and skills assessment centre Catch has been recognised at a major national awards ceremony.

The Stallingborough centre was shortlisted as a finalist in the Chemical Industry Service Provider of the Year at the Chemical Industry Awards.

Judges selected by the Chemical Industries Association sought innovation and outstanding delivery of services.

The industry heard how Catch is “supporting the chemical industry through outstanding authentic training facilities,” with the Science Industries Apprenticeship Consortium – subscribed to by many leading Humber bank firms – said to be “at the vanguard of employer-led apprenticeships”.

The commendation added: “Catch is unique in its approach and delivers outstanding results for industry”.

Developed in phases over more than a decade, it features industry-replicating process simulation on real kit, as well as computer control technology and ample workshops welcoming third party training providers.

Land adjoining the Kiln Lane site has just been opened up for further expansion, with plans also submitted to provide on-site accommodation in a transformation of the original administration building.

Chief executive David Talbot said he was “so proud of the Catch team” for the recognition received at the event, held in Newcastle last night.
