An incredible £500k centre where you can fight with Nerf guns is opening in Hull

Hull's first-ever play centre where children and adults can shoot each other with Nerf guns will open next month.

Hull Blast will be the first play centre of its kind to run in Yorkshire when it throws open its doors to thrill seekers at the Sutton Fields Industrial Estate on March 1.

Complete with three spacious play zones, a target practice room, a cafeteria and parking for 70 cars, the £500,000 facility is hoping to attract families from across the region.

Guns and equipment will be supplied by Nerf, who run their own combat play centres in other parts of the UK.

The venture has been set up by friends Kris Guy and Dan Tills, along with their wives, Donna and Jo.

Kris, from Bransholme, has left his taxi driving job of 17 years to throw himself into the project, which he said snowballed after a trip to a similar centre in the north-west.

The 43-year-old said: "Dan and I were fed up of our kids shooting us with Nerf guns so we decided to take them somewhere they could do it.

"We found out the nearest one was all the way over in Warrington. We took them across for the day and they loved it, but we felt it was something we could do better ourselves.

"We've spent about a year putting our ideas together and everyone we've spoken to about getting money has loved them. Everyone we've had in so far to have a look has been very impressed to."

The play centre is on the site of the closed Yorkshire Mobility store in Stockholm Road, and will take party bookings as well as informal groups.

With prices starting at £10 an hour for adults and children, Kris said the business was keen to appeal to grown-ups as much as the kids.

"It's something all the family can enjoy," he said.

"At Warrington we found that a lot of the parents were just sat around not knowing what to do, so one thing we're looking at getting installed is a football pool table.

"There's nothing else like it in Yorkshire so we're expecting we'll draw people from all over. We felt there's a real lack of leisure in Hull so it is exciting."
