70 new jobs in £10m expansion

Thursday, March 04, 2010, 06:30

SEVENTY new jobs will be created thanks to an ambitious £10-million expansion at a world class Scunthorpe factory.

Skymark, based on Mannaberg Way, announced last summer it was creating about 40 local jobs and extending its printing factory with new equipment worth about £3-million.

But the firm, which uses hi-tech equipment to print onto plastic and film, has said it is now expanding those plans with £10-million of investment in five new machines which need up to 70 staff from the area.

Scunthorpe site manager Leeson Potter said: "We are all excited by the expansion and investments that have been made at the Scunthorpe site, not only because of the additional functions we can perform in Scunthorpe but also the job opportunities which are created because of the continued plans to double our turnover by 2012."

Richard Kendall, policy executive at the Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce, said: "It's great news for Scunthorpe that a company based here is doing so well.

"It's a big investment in creating local jobs.

"We do have a lot of modern companies like this on the south bank but at the moment not that many are creating jobs in big numbers.

"I think in the context on what we are seeing recently, this is quite a significant number of jobs being created."
