New 'swap shop' brings high street hope

Thursday, March 11, 2010, 06:30

A NEW entertainment exchange store is set to open in Scunthorpe town centre.

A branch of the CeX (Complete Entertainment Exchange) secondhand company will be trading on Cole Street from March 27.

The chain has more than 100 stores across the world and specialises in reselling electronics and mobile phones.

The new Scunthorpe store has created around 10 jobs, which were filled after a recruitment fair last week.

Franchisee, Ismail Ladha, said he was looking forward to the opening of the shop.

He said: "It is a retail giant and we deal with products like DVDs, electronics and computing.

"We buy, trade and sell all digital products.

"It is fantastic for Scunthorpe town centre, there is no doubt about it."

The arrival of the store, which will be situated between New Look and VK's Family Restaurant, in The Foundry Shopping Centre, has been welcomed by business leaders.

Chairman of the North Lincolnshire Business Association, Des Comerford, said: "It is excellent news for the town centre.

"It is nice that a retailer of that size has chosen Scunthorpe to trade from and on the back of the news about Primark coming to the town, it looks as if things are generally picking up."
