Sewell Group in top 10 UK employers list

Tuesday, March 09, 2010, 06:30

LISTENING to its staff has helped the Sewell Group earn a top 10 place in the Sunday Times' 100 Best Companies To Work For 2010.

It is the second consecutive year the Hull construction firm has appeared in the table.

Last year, the company became the first from the city to make the list, going straight into the top half of the table at number 45.

This year, as first reported in the Mail on Saturday, the Sewell Group has rocketed further up the table to be ranked the eighth-best company to work for in the UK.

The move, which makes it the highest-placed business in Yorkshire, also represents the biggest climb in the tables.

Managing director Dr Paul Sewell said: "I am absolutely delighted we have been rated so highly by the Sunday Times and Best Companies.

"It is a great improvement on last year, which in itself was an incredible achievement.

"We employ some brilliant people and I am delighted that their hard work over the past 12 months has resulted in such a dramatic and demonstrable improvement.

"I am so proud of what we have achieved and I am really pleased that we have been able to fly the flag for Hull for the second year running."

The list is rated on an in-depth selection process that asked every member of staff for their opinions on what it is like to work for the organisation, taking into account areas such as employee engagement, opportunities to grow and learn and how well senior managers listen to employees.

It also involves a review of processes and procedures.

Key members of the business community were full of praise for the Sewell Group.
