Mayflower Wood is not only Lincolnshire's newest Woodland but also the largest project of its kind in the UK and fully open for everyone to enjoy!

The woodland has been developed by ConocoPhillips Humber Refinery in conjunction with the local community and has seen a vast area covering 120 acres turned into a nursery woodland.  Over 67,500 trees & shrubs have been planted over a two year period starting in 2005.

There are many ways you can become part of the woodland, become a friend, join us on one of our events days, or quite simply just visit and enjoy.

PILGRIMS CELEBRATED AT MAYFLOWER WOOD - 15/07/08

If you went down to the woods this weekend... you would have been in for a big surprise!  The usually tranquil Mayflower Wood, off Eastfield Road, in South Killingholme, was packed with visitors checking out its open day on Sunday.

The wood, on land owned by ConocoPhillips oil refinery, consists of more than 80,000 trees, planted since its inauguration in 2003.

Dianne Evans, of the Killingholme Area Advisory Group (KAAG), got into the spirit by dressing up in a Pilgrim-style costume.

She said: "Some of the money raised today will be going towards the KAAG fund, which we use for the community in the village.

"Having somewhere like Mayflower Wood is such a boost for the whole village because there was nowhere to go for a walk before this was here.

"The trees are growing well and it is all coming along nicely.

"It is a perfect venue for events like this and it brings everyone from the village together."

At the fun day, there were reenactments, face-painting, archery and other stalls.

Debbie Elder, of South Killingholme, brought along husband Mick and sons Michael (eight) and Joe (five).

She said: "It is great to have the wood here to come to and we have had a really nice day."

Michael said: "I think it is really good fun and it has been good to see everyone dressed up."

Nina Nielsen, of ConocoPhillips, said: "The wood is completely open to the public at all times, and there are three different walkways.

"We usually have fun days in the summer and winter, and this year we have combined it with the Pilgrim celebrations.

"It's been a great day out."

Trees generate oxygen and play host to a spectacular variety of wildlife, helping make woods such magical places.  You can say it with a tree and become part of Mayflower Wood. We all have occasions we wish to mark. Happy ones like weddings and births, annual celebrations such as birthdays or anniversaries, and occasionally, sad ones like the passing of a dear friend or relative.

More and more people are choosing to “say it with trees” by dedicating a tree, the special gift that goes on growing, ensuring Mayflower Wood is there for future generations to enjoy.
