Airline training online

Tuesday, October 21, 2008, 15:02

This latest training scheme has been developed in the region by Quadratica (UK) Ltd, in Grimsby, and Redline Aviation Security, from Doncaster.

It provides efficiency savings for Humberside Airport-based Eastern, as its pilots, cabin attendants and ground staff are able to undertake refresher courses online and at the airline's convenience.

The UK Department for Transport requires that crew of all aircraft operators undergo security refresher training every 13 months, while the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) stipulates that crew also undergo dangerous goods refresher training every two years.

Once Redline and Quadratica completed all the relevant technical specification checks and computer-based training tests, the online course was rolled out to Eastern Airways' crews.

Captain Simon Rawcliffe, Eastern Airways' head of training, said: "We approached Redline Aviation Security and Quadratica to develop an online security training package as there wasn't a web-based offering anywhere.

"We are very pleased with the web solution and have already had positive feedback from our crews.

"This is an excellent example of local companies working in partnership and this will significantly reduce costs as we now don't have to take crews off flying duties to complete the courses."

It comes as the company adds Oslo to its flight plan, for business and short breaks.

Aberdeen, served regularly from Kirmington, will gain a direct link to the Norwegian capital from January.

The UK's most punctual scheduled airline has already been providing a frequent service between the UK and Stavanger.

Now a 50-seat Saab 2000 aircraft will operate daily services to Oslo.

A number of large oil-related companies have offices in Oslo, which has the busiest cargo port in the country, along with many shipping companies and insurance brokers.
